St Patrick’s College - School Mural

The Wall Station were approached by St Patrick’s College in Strathfield, NSW, to organise a second mural for the school. St Patrick’s College is an independent catholic primary and secondary school in Strathfield in Sydney’s Inner West.

Working with artist Kailin Hegel, The Wall Station were able to organise the installation of a very specific mural for the school. Kailin is a talented muralist from New York who currently works and lives in Sydney, Australia. Much of her work focuses on realism, however she enjoys creating new and original styles to meet a project brief.

St Patrick’s College school mural brief:

“A bright collage style image incorporating images of our students doing the school activities they love in places familiar to them. Mural elements are to include the Junior School Uniform including the blue cap, a reference to the chapel and religious cross, boys working in the library and a student playing a ball sport on the oval.”

Using photos from the school archives, Kailin was able to design the mural to include school colours and the specific elements to meet the school brief.

Benefits of School Murals

Activates the Imagination

Public art activates the imagination and encourages people to pay attention and perceive more deeply the environment they occupy, and improves and beautifies school grounds.

Stimulates Learning

Murals stimulate learning and thought about art and society, about our interconnected lives, and about the social sphere. Our program provides real world learning and the opportunity to add the experience to a student portfolio.

Encourages Collaboration

Our mural programs require collaboration between artists, students, and teachers. By working together, students build collaborative team working skills. By learning these new skills, self-esteem and self-confidence are boosted.
