Bankstown Mural

Thomas Jackson Mural

We had the pleasure of working with Sydney mural artist Thomas Jackson for an outdoor mural install at Bankstown CBD along a 45 metre pedestrian lane way. Thomas Jackson painted three zones in a pedestrian laneway between Marion Street and Kitchener Parade in Bankstown thanks to the generous support of City of Canterbury Bankstown Council.

The creative brief for the mural involved creating an 'expressive, narrative, robust and mindful' artwork. Council suplied a list of local wildlife in the lead up to the artwork design, as well as the artist undertaking his own local research. The final design celebrates local bird life found in an around the City of Canterbury Local Government Area. Thomas also installed large leaf shapes in a zig zag pattern on the floor of the pedestrian laneway.

Spotted Pardalote

The spotted pardalote is one of the smallest of all Australian birds at 8 to 10 centimetres in length, and one of the most colourful; it is sometimes known as the diamond bird. The Spotted Pardalote is mostly found in eucalypt forests and woodlands but occurs in parks and gardens with well-established eucalypt canopy.

Eastern Koel

The Pacific Koel, also known as the Eastern Koel, is a species of cuckoo in the Cuculidae family. In Australia, it is colloquially known as the rainbird or stormbird, as its’ bird call is usually more prevalent before or during stormy weather.

Azure Kingfisher

The Azure Kingfisher (Ceyx azureus) is a small kingfisher (17–19 centimetres). It is found in Northern and Eastern Australia and Tasmania. It is a very colourful bird, with deep blue to azure back, a large white to buff spot on side of neck and throat, rufous-buff with some blue-violet streaks on breast and flanks. The feet are red with only two forward toes. The lores (the region between the eye and the bill) are white and inconspicuous except in front view, where they stand out as two large white eye-like spots which may have a role in warding off potential predators.
