EASEL’D

1 SEPTEMBER - 1 OCTOBER 2023

100 artists are taking to the streets of Newcastle’s CBD and Darby St, bringing broad brushstrokes of brilliance to portable walls, businesses and outdoor spaces, from the Cambridge Hotel to Nobby’s Lighthouse as part of a month-long live painting event, EASEL’D.

In partnership with 20+ Newcastle CBD and Darby St businesses, artists will be painting live on easels, over four consecutive weekends - in the open air and inside Newcastle CBD’s diverse mix of cafes, shopfronts, pubs, galleries and outdoor spaces. Get ready for a stellar lineup of artist mini residencies, art workshops, masterclasses, host talks, guided tours and an artists’ trail.

EASEL’D is supported by the City of Newcastle Special Business Rate Grant Program.

HOSTING A MINI ARTIST RESIDENCY AT YOUR CBD BUSINESS

If you are a cafe, bar or shop in the Newcastle CBD area and would like to host a mini artist residency, please contact us on info@thewallstation.com or call Jacinta on 0422 033 055. There is no cost to businesses to host an artist, and artists will be paid for their time under our grant funding. We will work with businesses to curate the right artist for their premises. EASEL’D will be supported with a full scale promotional campaign.

ENRICHING NEIGHBOURHOOD SPACES

100 artists will spotlight 20 + amazing places, cafes, bars, businesses, galleries, rooftops and new spaces in our CBD through the Festival Trail in our hardcopy A5 program which will be distributed Newcastle wide to promote the program.

The EASEL’D program will feature:

20 x curated artists live painting at ‘mini residencies’ on easel’s or sketch pads at CBD businesses over weekends from the 1 Sept to 2 October

20 x artists live painting on portable walls and structures over the long weekend of October 2023.

4 x Art Workshops - for the public to attend plen-air painting sessions with featured artists at no costs. Workshops will be free and limited to 15 attendees each.

3 x Artist Talks at select venues during ‘mini residencies’.
