Hunter Multicultural Communities – Mural Series
Nick Fintan has just finished the 2nd mural in a series of three for the Hunter Multicultural Communities centre in Waratah. The artist has created a site-specific multicultural-themed mural that works in with the heritage of the building, directs visitors to the new cafe and celebrates the community garden on site.
The mural complements his first mural which was installed in December 2018 in the new cafe with students from Callaghan Technology Campus.
Nick is a contemporary artist originally from Sydney’s Inner West. In 2015, his portrait of Marcus Westbury was selected from the pool of Archibald Prize entrants by AGNSW curator Anne Ryan to exhibit at ANZ Tower. He is a two-time finalist of the Brett Whiteley Traveling Art Scholarship, as well as a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award and Blake Prize.
Over the last two years, his practice has had a constant stream of privately commissioned artworks. More recently, Nick has begun exploring large-scale paintings, moving from the canvas to the wall, with mural works appearing in Sydney’s Inner West, Western Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
