Master The Walls
The Master The Walls Program is a school mural program for low socio-economic high schools who could not otherwise afford to have a street artist visit the school. Students studying the NSW high school curriculum now study ‘graffiti art’ and ‘public art’ subjects within the KASCA (knowledge and skills creative arts) visual arts framework.
Utilising some of Australia’s most popular professional street artists, the Master The Walls Program teaches mural painting and shares vocational knowledge about the creative profession of mural painting. In addition to learning new skills, building self esteem and working as part of a team – students have the rare opportunity to gain an understanding of the day-to-day business of full time professional muralist and how the artist began their career.
The program involves the professional mural artist hosting an art workshop, an artist talk and working with students to paint a mural at the school.
Afterwards, two students are selected by the school for a work experience opportunity which will involve assisting the artist to paint an additional mural in the local community. The work experience element provides valid vocational training that students can add to their creative portfolios and CVs.
